Summary
A record-breaking snowfall in the city of Pittsburgh forces the day shift crew of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center to take refuge on the eighth floor. Which, Mel figures, could always be worse. Except for the fact that she didn't plan for this and has no change of clothes, no snacks, and no idea how she's going to keep herself entertained in a stuffy hospital room for the foreseeable future.
Enter Frank Langdon, the man with a plan to make Mel's night slightly less miserable.
Mel wonders how much longer she can continue to push her ever-growing feelings for her coworker aside.

They were friends.
And yeah, maybe the ring on his finger sort of burned when he looked at her sometimes, even though it was just for show, now.
It was just easier to let her keep thinking he was still married to Abby. Safer.
It raised less eyebrows about the nature of their friendship when the ring stayed on while he was at work, the weight on his finger reminding him not to say or do anything stupid.
It also made it a little less creepy when the pet names started slipping out.

“Buck,” Eddie breathes, just about the second the call connects. His voice is pitched, strained in a way that immediately sets Buck on edge. He doesn’t pause to let Buck say hello, either. Just gets straight to the point. “Chris wasn’t on the bus.”
Buck blinks as the words slam into him, one after the other. “What?”
“Christopher,” Eddie says, tight and tinged with distress. “He wasn’t on the bus. The one he takes home from school every single day. I went down to the stop to wait for him, like I always do, and he didn’t get off the bus, Buck. He— he wasn’t even on it.” Eddie’s voice cracks. “The driver, he said he didn’t see Chris get on.”
It takes a second, for the reality of what Eddie is saying to sink in.
Christopher, not home from school. Christopher, not on the bus. Christopher, missing.

Buck hums. He would be lying if he never though of Bobby in that way, that man is the closest thing to a parent he has ever had and he owns an actual pair of parents already. Every fight, every hug, every cooking lesson and a word of advice are adding up to hundreds by now and Buck could not imagine where he would be without Bobby’s steady guidance.
“Guess so” he answers and Eddie removes his hand but before he leaves, he hovers between the two rooms.
“And, bud? You are to Chris what Bobby is to you. Just in case that wasn’t clear.”
And then the bastard leaves.
Or, 5 times Buck does not realize he is Christopher’s parent and 1 time he does.
