Summary
Buck and Eddie's relationship is new, and both have decided to keep it under wraps. Eddie takes that to mean they won't flaunt it. Buck takes it to mean that they're pretending they are both still single and just friends. Neither talks about it. Chaos ensues.

"Oh, you mean Eddie? Yeah, Eddie Diaz." And Eddie is a lot more interested in the answer now that Buck seems to have realized the man was asking about him. They haven't properly labelled it yet, but to Eddie it’s pretty clear that whatever they call their relationship, they are BuckandEddie. Except, Buck doesn't seem to share that particular thought, because he says, "Yeah, he's single."
The pang of hurt is bright and strong. But just that, a pang. It is quickly replaced by anger. If Eddie is single, he should be the first one to know, not a random patient in the middle of a scene.

“Partners” Buck answers then. “Does it bother you?”
“Of course not, Buck. It’s just… Chim, Maddie and Hen didn’t know we were dating until around a month ago.”

A Pack is coming to visit, and Derek thinks it's best to get attention off of Stiles, especially since he recently became the Emissary for the Pack and started training as a Spark. Which means, he thinks it's best not to let the visitors know they are dating. It doesn't work the way Derek had hoped it would.
OR, Derek and Stiles pretend they are NOT dating, and it doesn't work.

"Eddie," Buck pleads. The water's lapping at his chin. "Go."
"Shut up," Eddie snaps. He rips off his gloves so he can get a better grip on the steering wheel. "I'm not leaving you here."
Buck slides his hand up to Eddie's shoulder and hooks his thumb in the collar of Eddie's turnout coat. He presses it to Eddie's skin as he says, "Please. Don't make me watch you drown."
"You," Eddie croaks. His eyes are stinging. He can't fucking breathe. "You think I could stand watching you drown? You think that wouldn't kill me?"

“Don’t talk about Buck,” Eddie says. “He,”
There’s not much he can say without outing himself, so he stops short. Inhales. Exhales. Inhales. Exhales.
“Look,” Eddie says, firm, “Chris is my son. And I get to decide where we live.”
“Oh, Eddie,” Helena says, voice full of pity. “Please don’t force our hand.”
“Force your hand?”
“To fight for his custody.”
“What?” Eddie asks with quiet disbelief. His brain is in the process freezing completely, his veins ice cold.
He knows his parents don’t like him. He’s known that his whole fucking life. But this? This is too much. And worse, it’ll hurt Chris. Turn him into the same mess Eddie is.
“He needs stability and security. Something he clearly didn’t have until very recently. We’d been thinking about it ever since you got shot. Then he called us, and we’d fully decided but, you just let him go and we thought we wouldn’t need to. But now,”
Eddie’s breathing gets increasingly heavier until he collapses.

The Diaz parents Diaz parent and Eddie has a panic attack, so Buck drops everything and flies (not) straight to El Paso. They find their way home.

Summary
So, when Eddie asked Buck to join him on a double date, he probably should have respectfully said no.
He did not say no.
Instead, here he is, sitting across from a beautiful girl named Alex trying to be polite enough to not make things awkward, but not enough so that he leads her to believe he’s into her, because all he actually wants to do is make out nasty style with the straight guy sitting next to him.
Or, Buck and Eddie attend a double date. It's unclear who is double dating who.
