    he couldn’t afford to be sick, couldn’t bear the guilt of having to selfishly tap out of any activities his friends may have planned for the day just because of a little itch in his throat, or even some cold sweat dampening the fur of his too-warm body. he had to play his role.

    or at least he would’ve loved to, if his friends hadn’t stared at each other after he tripped over his own wobbly legs during an attempt of persuasion over the very thing that brought his unsteadiness in the first place. muzzle-down onto the burning dirt path, he’d whined as he was dragged away with tutting scoldings from all his friends, embarrassment making the back of his neck flush.

    after that fiasco, it was safe to say him being labeled as ‘bedridden’ had been appropriate.
