    Imagining prison and being in prison were very different things. Rations were scarce, and the warden’s punished defiance with starvation- and Pyke was nothing if not defiant.

    No matter how long Pyke spent locked up, there would always be one universal constant- he had some of the fastest fists in the galaxy, and he knew how to pack a punch. If the fights were fair, then he could kick any of their asses without breaking a sweat.

    Not when it was two dozen inmates on one, though.

    “Could be worse,” he says. It’s a half truth. It doesn’t feel bad, mostly because the area has already begun to go numb, which might be worse. “Might be poisoned, though. Stupid thing was probably venomous.”

    “Shit. Is it…?”

    Life-threatening?

    Macaque snorts. “Guess we'll have to sit here and find out, huh?”
