“Captain Nash, first off I would like to state that Evan is alive.” And Bobby almost sags down onto the floor. He doesn’t, but Chimney does it for him. Sliding off the couch, letting go of Hen, as she sobs in relief. “I know this is never a call you want to receive and it's one we don’t wish to give.”
“Can you give me any details?” Bobby chokes out, he needs to know what happened. Needs to be ready for whatever is to come. Because it’s something. His eyes met Eddies, whose eyes are shiny.
They don’t call if Evan isn’t hurt.
“Officer Nash, Evan.” And the man does sound affected and Bobby realizes that this man may directly know his son, “Was out in the field, a infiltration mission, I apologize I can’t be more specific.” Bobby doesn’t give a fuck, “We were ambushed, I’m sorry Captain but Evans leg was crushed underneath a tank.”

And you are doing alright, yeah?” Her voice wobbled slightly, and the guilt nearly knocked the air out of him. Because he wasn’t alright, actually. Not at all. He was dying. Again.
“Maddie, my platelets were high after my leg, ya know, and they thought it was normal. But the doctor ordered a follow up once I was healed as good as it was gonna get, and they were still high. And so were my blood cells,” He glanced up and could see Maddie’s pale face. She knew what that meant. From being there through Daniel’s illness, and then as a nurse, he knew he didn’t have to say it out loud. But he owed it to her to be honest. “I have a blood disorder, it’s why I threw a clot and ended up with the embolism. It’s chronic myeloid leukemia.”

Summary
He knows he could have called Maddie and she would have been there, though the memory of her disappointment last time stopped him. As for everyone else—even if he weren’t prohibited from talking to them by his lawyer, Buck doubts anyone would have come. The last time they talked was when they ran into each other in the grocery store a week back, and, since Buck is not eager for a repeat of that interaction, he doesn’t even consider calling anyone in to hold his hand for what is, he tells himself, probably just another little blip on his road back to the 118.
He is able to convince himself of this up until the moment Dr. Gutierrez walks into his room and says, “Well, Evan, you just can’t seem to do anything the easy way, can you?”
Because, as it turns out, there is a circumstance under which a tiny clot that doesn’t cause you to vomit blood in front of all of your friends and family is worse than three big ones that do: that circumstance is called ‘being on blood thinners.’

Evan Buckley from the 118 is just about the strangest person that Bobby, Chimney, Eddie and Hen have all met. He's just odd, he has a pen he never uses, can read Ancient Greek, can hold his breath for way too long. He's odd, and they all notice as they spend shift after shift together.
An AU where Buck is Percy Jackson. This story is like 5 + 1, where each character notices that Buck is strange, that odd things happen around him, and a +1 where they find out about what it is - i.e. that he's the son of Poseidon. The story starts from when he joins the 118 to just after he's struck by lightening.

Summary
For the prompt: Post lawsuit Buck is feeling super isolated and sad. When the blood thinners have a side effect leaving him with a painful itchy rash on his back, he does his best to hide it. One day Bobby piles on even more chores than usual, and one of the cleaning chemicals spills and makes contact with his back rash. Buck is in agony but says nothing. When it becomes too much Buck finally goes to Eddie for help. Eddie and co are horrified and feel super guilty, especially Bobby. Buddie ensures as Eddie takes all care of Buck like he should have from the very beginning.

“I have Buck in my Will,” Eddie blurts suddenly, startling Bobby a little. “If something were to happen to me on a call, he becomes Chris’ guardian.”
Bobby is glad they’re currently stuck in traffic because he’s pretty sure they would have needed to pull over so he could fully absorb the information Eddie has just offered him.
“Wow,” Bobby manages after grasping at words uselessly for a full minute.
Eddie laughs, but it sounds a little flat. He massages his temples. “This was not how I was expecting to spend my morning.”
Bobby huffs out a laugh, accelerating gently when the gridlock finally creeps forward. He pulls onto another side street, taking the long way towards the hospital. It would be faster than using any more of the main roads.
“When did you decide that?” Bobby asks finally. Eddie wasn't bringing it up because he enjoys sharing information; he was a private person. He's brought it up because he wants to talk about it, and he trusts Bobby with this.
