“How can I?” Scott couldn’t help the bitterness in his voice.
When a middle-aged man had jumped between an alien and some teenagers, he'd died with a laser hole burnt into his HUNTER 21 jersey.
“I don’t just mean in that fight,” Rogers said. The vehemence took Scott by surprise, making him lean back a little. “Before and after, with every game you play, every battle I fight, every interview we give — we inspire people. We give people hope, and there is little that is more powerful than hope.”
Scott was no hero, no matter what spectacle the media created out of him smacking off a handful of Chitauri during the invasion of New York. Captain America had plenty of people more familiar with his world; he didn’t need some washed up hockey player to network with.
But when Natasha Romanoff insisted Steve Rogers 'needed more friends outside of work,' Scott handed over his phone number, anyway.
