About how a life can reroute without permission, without warning. Maybe it starts with something small, a glance that was held a fraction too long or a thought you mistook for background noise. Something you tell yourself doesn’t matter, because it shouldn’t. Because if it did, you’d have to admit what it means, and meaning is dangerous.
or Nicholas and Euijoo are rivals on the same track team at their Christian school. Euijoo, shy and careful, pushes himself harder than anyone else to keep his scholarship and help his mom care for his sick little brother. Nicholas seems flawless–always beating his times, going to parties while Euijoo is at home, and drawing everyone’s attention, but his life isn’t as perfect as it appears. “You don’t look like the type to be scared of a needle,” Euijoo muses.
Nicholas swallows. Nods. He hops onto the chair, scooting back so he’s not slouching. “It’s not the needle, necessarily. It's the… puncturing?” He squeezes one eye shut after the word leaves his mouth. His charm output is clearly lacking tonight.
Euijoo hums, dropping into a stool. He rolls over to get his tools set up, looking up through his lashes at Nicholas. “The penetration,” he says seriously.

Nicholas stared for a moment, then leaned forward, a grin spreading across his face. “Then we make a deal.”
Euijoo blinked. “A deal?”
“I teach you how to fight. You patch me up. Fair trade.”
“That doesn’t sound fair at all,” Euijoo said, frowning. “You’ll get less out of it.”
Nicholas chuckled. “You’d be surprised how often I get hurt.”
Nicholas has survived gangs, implants, and the kind of streets that chew people up. Now he fights underground matches and tries not to think about the device in his neck that malfunctions more each week.
Euijoo runs a quiet clinic -- too skilled for someone who claims he’s self-taught, too calm for someone living in the slums. Nicholas can’t read him, can’t ignore him, can’t stop returning to him.
What begins as patching wounds becomes something far more intimate -- a pull neither of them asked for, crafted from blood, lies, and the kind of longing that grows in dark places.
But Euijoo’s past isn’t as harmless as he pretends.
And Nicholas’s implant is a ticking fuse.
