When Picasso runs away Clarke has no other choice but to follow her, her anxiety and fear of being alone increasing with each step she took towards the dog. She doesn't find her, and instead she finds Lexa... kind of.
For the first time, she will allow herself to believe in a lie as long as she gets some comfort, some closure from it. And Lexa will be the one to help.
((This is a different take on that last scene with Lexa in Season 7 Episode 16, and is basically what my delulu mind came up with at 2 in the morning when I had 3 hours left to get some sleep.))

Gardenia, the pretty lakeside community the last remnants of the Human race have made their home, some 4 years after the Ascent of Man. The final fourteen Humans and a dog (And for reasons that will become apparent, a young Mountain Lion).
It's Mother's Day, the thanksgiving festival to mark a successful harvest and what should be a day of joy. Which it is. Sort of. If you ignore the fact that everyone in Gardenia is aware they are the last of their kind. If you try not to focus too much on the statement that has come to define their futures: "There will be no children".
It turns out to be a day of many visitors. Of Joy and sadness. Of retribution and atonement. Of hope and change.
