“Ma!” Kagome screeched, slamming her hands down on the counter. Her mother looked back at her with disappointment. “How could you do that?” Kagome’s head fell into her hands as she groaned.
“It’s not like we have much of a choice, dear,” her mother chided, stacking the papers in front of her. “If you don’t agree to the arrangement, we’ll have to close in less than three months.”
“You know this isn’t just about a failing coffee shop.” Gramps chimed in from the corner.
“Gramps,” Kagome groaned, lifting her head to stare out the window. “I’m not a little kid anymore. You can stop with the fairy tales.”
Gramps sputtered, but her mother herded him toward the door, shaking her head. “They’re much more than fairy tales, girl, and it would serve you well to heed them!”
