The simple truth of it was that Jane was scared. It was an unusual and wholly unwelcome feeling, one that Jane was unaccustomed to. He knew that Lisbon expected sex, that she was waiting for it. The idea that she might have certain expectations of him was frightening. He was out of practice, out of his comfort zone, and overcome by the depth of his own desire for her.
The sure-footed, arrogant Jane that she'd known for the last fourteen years had no standing here. He felt embarrassingly like a teenage boy around her now. Poised on a hair trigger, unable to gather his composure.

It's no excuse, but I wrote this in 30 days, a chapter every single day, and it was quite the discipline I can tell you. That said, I'm not sure whether it shows.
