They didn’t suffer, didn’t feel a thing; they just never woke up. It’s something, Wedge says. All I can think about, though, is his face during Lujayne Forge’s funeral, our pilot killed in her sleep on a rainy Talasea’s night. He would have preferred them dying in the battle at Distna; he hates the simple fact that they were never allowed to fight.All these years, I wondered if telling him was the right choice. It brought us all so much pain. It threw us apart. It was easier for me, alone in the Temple; what Tycho and Wedge, seeing each other sometimes every day, felt? Knowing it was all a lie, a play-pretend. Tycho, an impostor of the man whose greatest fear was of himself. Wedge, begging to wake up from the nightmare. I could have just stayed quiet.
