”Wannabe kazoos?!”
Their voices were akin to sandpaper scraping in his ears, and he couldn’t tell whether he would snap or splinter when it finally wore him down. He placed the mug down by the sink and winced at the loud clunk it made when it hit the surface. Jon felt their gaze shift his way almost immediately.
“O-Oh, Jon, I– um. Are you ok–“
“Penne or angel hair noodles?”

He stole another quick look at Martin, unsurprised but worried to see a blank face greeting him, Martin just barely making sure to keep one foot in front of the other without tripping. A rope of anxiety tightened around his lungs, a moment of uncertainty overcoming him as he rattled his brain for what to do. It didn’t even occur to him that his hand had been moving until he felt his knuckles brush up against Martin's hand, and he immediately drew it back to his side, searching for any reaction from the silent figure. Still nothing. He had half a mind to just weave his fingers together and call it a day, but his chest squeezed, so his hand stayed right where it was. He would not ruin this yet.
“S-so uh.. What all are we getting again?” Jon turned his head to Martin, dutifully putting his hands into his jacket pockets. Maybe then his mind would stop chasing him like a greyhound with the idea he would only semi-indulge.
