“Hey, Josie?” Hope asks, pupils wide and glittering in the soft candlelight.
Josie feels her heart stop, then start again as she tries to push breath through her lungs. “Yeah, Hope?”
Hope’s fingers continue to slide against the skin they’re gripping. She feels Hope shift closer, inch by inch, until they’re nose to nose.
“I think I’m going to kiss you now,” Hope says, eyelashes fluttering. Josie’s heart does stop this time. “If that’s alright.”
“Oh,” Josie sighs, and her eyes drift shut until they’re slivers, “I was thinking the same thing, actually.”
