An idea occurred to Hogan. "Take a stance when an officer is present."
Newkirk, responding to the command, stood at attention but could not suppress a grin."Yes, sir!" retorted Hogan.
"Yes, sir" Newkirk repeated.
"I wanted to talk to you about some inconvenience you're causing me during the service," Hogan said, taking a step forward so he was directly facing Newkirk.
Newkirk played along with Hogan's game and asked, "What inconveniences sir? I try to carry out my duties and orders with all thoroughness."
