Summary
Instead of the pretty manageable cookies explosion he was bracing himself for, Robin barged in the common room to get tackled to the ground by Batman.
Okay, so he was used to that, even if Bruce avoided doing that where Robin's teammates could see it because it was just a little humiliating, and Dick liked to be seen as a strong independent young hero, and not as a sidekick that got tackled around by his mentor.
But then again, having Batman's nice Kevlar cape between himself and the explosion was always appreciable. Plus, Batman had also protected Zatanna, so it all wasn't quite as bad as it could have been.
It was after, when Batman cursed and knelled up, that Dick started suspecting something was really, whelmingly wrong.

The boy glares menacingly at him, but it quickly becomes something adorable rather than threatening. Clark thinks if he squints, the boy sort of looks like those small, viciously angry little dogs people carry in their purses — only with large and distinctly reptilian blue eyes.
"Read the report." Bruce states when he realises Clark is not paying attention to the stack of papers he'd given him earlier, "Ignore him."
"I don't think I can," Clark replies, not even bothering to hide that he's staring at the strange not-human-boy, "He's eating a screwdriver."
"He's teething." Bruce offers in retaliation like it was some sort of explanation, and then proceeds to offer absolutely nothing else.
(Batman is human, Dick Grayson is not. This changes nothing and everything, all at once.)

When the Snap happened, that was it. Danny's life was over. His friends and family were gone, his allies and enemies dust in the wind. It was like the CATs test all over again, but Clockwork had no reset button for this.
He had something better.
Dr. Strange had searched 14 million futures to find one in which Thanos was defeated. Clockwork had infinite futures and an infinite amount of time on his hands. It was only a matter of time and chance before he found the one that would fit his needs and set the multiverse to rights.
It came with the added benefit of preventing more paradoxes and saving a few key people the human race was better off keeping alive.
