Zankoku Akui remembers holding his moms hand as they walked home from a cheesy western cowboy film, she pretended to lasso him as he giggled, tail lashing out excitedly behind him. She had given him her large cowboy hat, pressing it down over his face halfway through the movie, and it falls into his eyes now.
He remembers letting his moms hand go to move it back when he heard her scream.
His hand felt cold as she fell to the ground next to him.
His blood felt even colder as he saw the man standing over her.

Summary
Sammy thought when he auditioned to get on the new reality show Total Drama Island that it would be a great opportunity to make new friends. While he wasn’t exactly wrong, he never thought it'd be so difficult, though in hindsight he should've expected that given the name "Total Drama". Hopefully, with the help of his new friends, he can make it through (mostly) intact. He also wouldn't entirely be opposed to getting closer to that cute sarcastic bookworm on his team, if only everyone didn't think he was a girl and Chris would stop interrupting him, that is.

Summary
Most people in Gotham will try to convince you that they've seen the darkest parts of this city and came out unscathed.
These people are liars.
Most people that actually see the darkness that lurks in empty alleyways, or the back of crowded bars hardly come out alive. The lucky ones, anyways.
Then there were the unlucky few. The children born in the darkness, saturated in misdeeds not caused by them, pushed into the world by parents who viewed them as an unwilling legacy. The smart ones learned to keep their heads down and mouths shut.
Others, like Arthur Gohnier, were viewed as tools, wielded by the parents content to push their children's faces into the muddied streets if it meant they could see the grass on the other side. Viewed as a way out, a means to an end. Arthur could only hope he was so lucky as to die young, rather than to grow up soaked in the blood of fools like his parents.
What a naive fool he was, to believe in such a thing as hope.

He knows Kyle's dating someone now, but he can't imagine who. Kyle says, "It's this one." Stan leans over. "Oh, duh, it's just Cartman's," he laughs. But he's horrified when Kyle's face goes violently, flamingly red. Stan's mouth hangs open and his world cracks in two. "You're NOT."

And since he's well aware of the lucrative underground market for pretty young men, and how much wealthy men will pay to do whatever they want to them... why not kill a few birds with the same stone?
Izaya stumbles from the warehouse that night, bleary and disoriented, his body hurting in ways he can't bear to think about. He wants to go home; he wants to disappear from the city as easily as if he'd never existed. Maybe he would have found a way to do just that if he hadn't collapsed part-way through the journey and been discovered... by none other than Shizuo.
