Honestly, Season 6 Mulder and Scully were driving me crazy with the amount of pining and "almost" moments they had.
I wanted to write a story where Mulder’s usual "I’m going to be mysterious and leave weird clues to mark our anniversary" thing finally hits a wall, and he’s forced to just be real with her.
