He shook his head, recognition parting the cobwebs in his brain. “Tifa?” he groaned, and lurched upright. His serpentine pupils dilated to slits, and his canines bared in a pained grimace. “Ti- Tifa,” he repeated, as a desperate, shaking hand shot towards her. “Please.”
She startled, and leapt back; her torn umbrella clattering to the cobblestones.

Hearing this, Byleth leads her assault on the palace along with anyone who would join her. But when it comes down to it, Byleth can't bring herself to finish off the Emperor. And on the battlefield, a moment’s hesitation will kill you. A single arrow to the heart, that's all it takes to end her life.

Summary
Garreg Mach’s newest professor, Byleth, is strikingly similar to Edelgard: Intelligent. Confident. But also distant, and intimidatingly ambitious. His guidance quickly makes the Black Eagles an unstoppable juggernaut of a class, putting the other houses to shame.
Felix is dissatisfied. Over the school year, he develops a strong bond with Sylvain, one possibly deeper than friendship, but the Blue Lions are falling behind, not making the progress he wants to see. Byleth sees his potential being wasted, and offers him a class transfer. Reluctant to leave Sylvain but desperate to get stronger, Felix accepts.
And then Edelgard declares war on the Church of Seiros. And the Black Eagles follow her.
This is the story of two boys, torn apart by war, abandoning their homelands and everything they’ve known as they fight their way back to each other.
