Summary
A particularly tragic case has left Robby low. Jack comes over to raise his spirits, and though Robby is one secretive son of a bitch when it comes to his own feelings, everything seems like it will be okay.
Later, the unthinkable happens. The attempt leaves Robby in the hospital and Jack scrambling to make sense of it all. He would've preferred Robby shoot him stone-cold dead.
As he starts the long road to recovery, Robby and Jack wrestle with the aftermath. Not only dealing with the devastation of his partner trying to take his own life, Jack struggles with his moral obligations as a doctor, a friend, and a partner. “In the case of State v. Wright, this court finds the defense… ahem, the defendant, Mr. Phoenix Wright, guilty!” The judge bangs his gavel. “This court is adjourned.”
Edgeworth watches the bailiffs step forward to cuff Wright and lead him away. He complies in silence, no crying or screaming or accusations hurled. Wright just turns his head and meets Edgeworth’s eyes as he’s escorted from the courtroom. Not angry, or accusing, or panicked, or shocked, or any of the typical responses Edgeworth gets when he secures his verdict. Wright looks like he’s searching for something in his face. Edgeworth swallows, unable to break his gaze.
The heavy courtroom doors do it for him, and just like that, he’s gone.

“Promise you won’t be mad?”
“Do not make me lie to you, Midoriya Izuku.”
“Right. Sorry. Bad start,” Midoriya squeaked. Shouta could almost see the kid on the other end of the line, probably vibrating with enough nervous energy to power a small city. “Seriously, this whole t-thing was—uh, everybody’s okay. Physically! Everyone is fine. Uh—well. The property damage is... mostly covered by insurance? Probably?”
Shouta closed his eyes and leaned his head against the headboard with a dull, rhythmic thud. “Property damage. At one in the morning. On your break.”
“Just a bit?”
“What happened?” Shouta drew out the words, each syllable dripping with a bone-deep exhaustion.
“I—” A long pause followed, then a whisper so thin it barely carried through the speaker. “I got into a fight.”
“Where?”
The silence on the other end was deafening.
“Midoriya Izuku,” Shouta warned, using the kid's full name again, his voice dropping into that low, dangerous territory that usually made students scramble for cover.
“A bar,” Midoriya finally whispered.

Shouta let out a breath so long it was practically a whistle. "It’s Saturday. He had less than twenty-four hours of unsupervised free time. I should have known he’d find a way to break something."
“Oh, Midoriya,” Hizashi threw his head back, his posture slumping as he stepped back to give Shouta some space.
Shouta answered the call with a sharpness that could have cut glass. “You better have a gun to your head, Midoriya,” he led with, his voice a low, dangerous rumble.
There was a pause on the other end—a beat too long—before a voice that was decidedly not Midoriya’s spoke up.
"Actually, this is Dr. Arisue from the West Musutafu Clinic," the man on the line said, sounding entirely too used to Aizawa's bedside manner. "And while there are no firearms involved, your student has had a small accident."
“What happened?" Shouta asked, grumbling.
“A flight of concrete stairs.”
‘...Beg your pardon?”
