Jaune Arc had always wanted to be a knight like his father before him. Unfortunately, little training and even less experience didn't exactly lend well to becoming one.
After failing to even be allowed into initiation at Beacon, Atlas, Haven, AND Shade academies, Jaune was beginning to lose hope. Menagerie had no academy, and the Valley was both a ways away and had little of its own.
But by pure chance, Jaune happened across news that there was a powerful force in the Valley was recruiting for knights, no qualification's needed to apply and initiate, you just had to pass.
It wasn't his fault he didn't know it was an EVIL knight order! Who even does that?!

Robert was special, Courtney always knew that.
He wasn't perfect, in the literal sense at least. He messed up here and there just like everyone else, but 9/10 times he was able to match anyone's energy and always seemed to know just what to do and say for them no matter the situation. It was no wonder he had so many people on his side with some not even bothering to hide their attraction for him.
But out of all of them he chose her. And he was just so damn perfect in her eyes, giving her his everything and then some no matter how stupid or bitchy she ever got with him. He was so impossibly perfect in fact that she couldn't help but feel worse about herself as she "failed" to satisfy him again and again in the bedroom no matter how much he said to the contrary.
And after a particular night of intense passion and love-making after a shockingly sweet gift Courtney can't stop herself from wanting to give the man more...

Summary
The Phoenix symbolizes renewal, rebirth, and resurrection, emerging from the ashes of its own fiery death to be reborn anew.
This is what Robert Robertson the Third tried to see himself as: A Phoenix. After losing his identity and job as Mecha-Man, he has a chance to reemerge as Dispatcher of the notorious Z-Team, a group of dangerous criminals given a shot at being heroes.
And, while everyone else regards the Z-Team as a dumpster fire, a nuclear bomb just waiting to be set off, Robert sees something else—he sees pain, understanding, and above all, an intent to be better. He sees people who had always drawn the short stick, who bet on losing cards, and who were always regarded as less.
What Robert sees... is a group of Phoenixes.
And he'll be damned if he won't stick by every one of them, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
tldr:
Robert is highly emotionally aware and fiercely protective, refusing to give up on anyone in the Z-team, even when the stakes are high and tension is rising. They're all a bunch of fuckin' idiots, as Chase would say, but they're undoubtedly his idiots, through and through. Blonde Blazer, oddly enough, supports this change of pace.Bookmarked by Megapanda25

The Z-Team didn’t like Robert.
They were villains. They were fuck ups. They each had a giant chip on their shoulders that barely let them stand next to each other on a good day. As soon as his voice first came on the group call, they had to give him shit. If they didn’t start harassing him, the Blonde Boss Lady would have benched them thinking they were being mind controlled.
Every handler thought they could “handle” the Phoenix team. Tame them, make them palatable, water them down. Turn them good. So they didn’t like Robert.
But they did like his voice.
