Summary
Kathryn Janeway always believed in clearly defined parameters.
When one was lost in the uncharted territories of the Delta Quadrant, the parameters provided a safety net, helping her maintain the professional relationship between the two commanding officers of the Federation Starship Voyager.
Some parameters, however, can be very hard to define when the whole universe seems to conspire to pull you together.
AU of season 5 onwards, in which Janeway and Chakotay get together and navigate the challenges of maintaining a romantic relationship and the demands of command. Starts around Timeless and follows the timeline, tweaked where necessary to fit with the AU.

Summary
This series is a selection of small (and sometimes large) moments between the episodes where Aeryn struggles to understand John, and sometimes herself. It's about language barriers, but also cultural barriers, the psychology of loneliness and loss, and of course, how their relationship develops, because or despite the barriers.
While each can be read on its own, they do build on and refer to each other. I also occasionally throw in flashbacks to Aeryn's life before Moya that make a lot of assumptions about Peacekeeper life from what little we see onscreen.

It had been ill-advised to begin with, and Kathryn supposed she should regret what had turned out to be the immediate consequence, that of being stranded with Chakotay on the planet they’d named New Earth, but she didn’t. She couldn’t. It was always better to know than to wonder, and now she knew.
The long-term consequences were turning out to be an entirely different matter.

Even when she was on the comm, speaking with an alien ship and politely diplomatic, he could still hear all the layers of everything she wasn’t saying under it. This particular series takes place post-show, i.e. from late 2155/early 2156, and has had the fraternisation rules relaxed. They’re not in each other’s chain of command, anyway.

Interspecies relationships are always a little bumpy, but Trip and T’Pol make it work. Somewhat canon divergent as of These Are The Voyages, by way of considering that episode an inaccurate novelization of events. Also some aliens are a tiny bit different in ways that make sense to me, things they couldn’t really do in makeup.
One of my friends rewatched Enterprise and now Trip and T’Pol are living in my head rent-free.

Summary
Shortly after making contact with Starfleet via the Pathfinder Project, the USS Voyager visits the Noetar Station in the hopes of performing some long overdue maintenance and trading with the resident species. Most of the crew are riding a wave of optimism following recent events, and Captain Kathryn Janeway is determined to sustain that hope—even when she's struggling to keep her own worries at bay. An upcoming birthday isn't helping, as it's yet another reminder of how much longer it will take to get home.
Although first contact goes smoothly, the ship soon loses contact with its away team just as the crew fall ill with a mysterious malady that leaves them slightly altered—and continuing to change. The captain and her senior staff suspect the Noetar may be behind what's happening, but it's a race against the clock to stop them. For as Janeway has long suspected, time is not always on their side.
