  2. Summary

    CTHL is a mer AU with characters from across the MCYT spectrum, but generally leaning toward Hermitcraft and Life Series characters. Follow the stories of Gem and Grian, Jimmy and Tango, Scar and Impulse, and so many other characters as they cope with the strange mer magic that causes mers to not retain memories between forms!

    This series is open for recursive fics, and we're always thrilled to add new fan works to our related works section! Thank you for reading. Cheers!

    Exactly what it says on the tin; most fics in here are from abandoned projects but there are a few extra scenes from completed fics that I thought would be fun to post (after all, if they're going to sit in my drive until the end of time, they may as well also see the light of day)

    “Eurydice, right?”

    Her gaze, drifting to glare at the hand still on her shoulder, snaps back to meet the man’s eyes.

    “Wh—” is all she can muster out, surprise traveling through her veins in violent waves, before the man speaks again.

    “Oh, sorry,” he finally takes his hand off of her shoulder. She doesn’t like how cold and light her shoulder feels with the absence of his hand’s weight. “You’re Eurydice, from the bar last night, right?”

    Eurydice. Did he just… remember her? She doesn’t remember the last time someone called her by that — her — name, nonetheless the last time she said it aloud.
    -
    the price to pay for love goes beyond history and past lives — she remembers. he knows.

    Summary

    “You’ve been stalling,” Jesper realized.

    Wylan flinched, chewing on his bottom lip. “I’ve been trying to recreate it,” he stubbornly repeated, his face smoothing over with remarkable practice, and it would have been a good lie.

    It would have been, if Jesper hadn’t grown up around jurda fields and understood precisely how to take each blossom apart. If Jesper hadn’t been a curious boy once, splitting each stem to understand how each flower bloomed beneath his mother’s touch – before grief had turned question into longing, and longing into restlessness.

    This wasn’t the plan: they were supposed to save Wylan, not kill him. But he’d seen what the parem had done, and the secret of it couldn’t leave this room.

    ------------------

    Or, the AU where Wylan is responsible for jurda parem, Jan Van Eck hires Kaz to rescue him from the Ice Court, and Jesper takes aim at Wylan.

    Summary

    Once, Wylan made Jesper swear not to let Alby Rollins suffer because of who his father was, in the way that you speak when you know what it’s like to suffer the agonies at hand.

    At the time, Jesper had thought that maybe Wylan’s father was some Barrel thug, the sort of job that invited in members of other gangs to come and beat up your family.

    Hell, if Jesper had learned about an hour ago that Wylan’s father was Jan Van Eck, then he might have assumed that Jan Van Eck’s enemies had once punished his son.

    But Wylan spoke of Jan Van Eck’s goons shoving someone into the canal, and Jesper knows how Wylan feels about the water.

    It cracks something open inside of Jesper to realize that Wylan didn’t trust him with the truth. That mayhaps Wylan’s trust wasn’t worth its weight in gold, but rather a higher price entirely, one that Jesper Fahey couldn't pay.

    But he has to take heart that the first thing that Wylan said, the moment that Kaz mentioned Van Eck, was a warning for their safety.

    “Wylan Van Eck?” Jesper asks.

    (When Kaz announces the Ice Court Heist, the truth comes out, or: Jesper Fahey is more clever than people give him credit for and puts the pieces together himself.)

    Summary

    “The creakies?” Grian asks, folding his arms.
    “Doc put them there.” Scar raises his head and pouts miserably. He really does look tired, thinks Grian with a softening heart. Dark circles, streaks of dirt, scratches on his cheek. “They’re all over my base and I can’t get rid of them.”
    Exhaustion is evident in his voice, and Grian takes pity on him. “Alright,” he sighs. “Just rest here. I’ll help you get rid of them later. And – why? Why would Doc do that?”
    “Apparently I pranked him on the last server,” Scar pouts. “I can't even remember it! I would never, Grian, would I?” He blinks a few times, aiming for innocent but landing more on scheming.
    “Yes, you would,” Grian smiles. When he turns away from Scar, his smile drops like a brick. He only barely keeps the accusation from his voice. “Do you think he remembers something?”
    “He’s an odd one,” Scar says evasively. He might as well have said yes outright.
    That settles it: Grian needs to pay the old goat a visit.

    ~~~~~~
    Grian struggles with his memories from previous servers - memories he's not supposed to have. And as Doc feuds with Scar, and no-one explains anything, Grian starts to get sicker and sicker.
    Summary
    “Kaz, just apologize to him,” Jesper says imploringly. It’s the first time in a week that Kaz is seeing Jesper after the argument—Wylan, notably, is absent.
    Kaz snorts. “What for?”
    Jesper groans. “You know what for. The stupid zebra fish thing.”
    or, Kaz and Wylan disagree about the findings from a study on the stress levels of zebra fish, Jesper is forced to get involved, and maybe, just maybe, the dispute is about more than just fish.
