Summary
After almost a year of not being able to find Bucky, Zemo tracks him down in South America.
Zemo had assumed that James–smartly–was done with him. That he had somehow figured out that it’s, indeed, not a smart idea to be physically involved with a man that has an iron grip on his psyche. But when he saw James on that rooftop in Rio, for the split second Zemo was conscious before he fell to his almost-death, the relief that had consumed him had been so surreal, so euphoric, that he literally would have died happy.
He’s glad that’s not the case.
It brings Zemo… comfort. Knowing that the Soldier had been loyal and dutiful to him despite not showing himself for a year.
It’s frustrating at the same time, because there were many times Zemo felt weak, lonely for the man, and he’d clearly been nearby.
But mostly, it’s comforting.
In the deep, dark depths of parts of himself once buried, Zemo recognizes his need for James, and in the deep, dark depths of James’ eyes, he sees it reflected.
