All Akira wants to do is cry and beg for things to be different. All Akira wants to do is lay in bed for a century until he melds into his sheets. All Akira wants is for the real Akechi to be here, to yell and scream and curse him out, to say he hates Akira, to say Akira should've been the one to die, to shoot Akira where he stands or stab him in the heart, make the metaphorical pain real in a way this fake never could.
All Akira wants is Akechi to be real, really real and not fake-real and all Akira wants is for Akechi to hurt him. But Akechi can't because there is no Akechi.

And maybe that was part of the issue. Because people weren’t gentle with Richard the way Camille was, people didn’t bother to look him in the eyes and believe in his ability to be a better person than he was, or that maybe right now he could be considered a good man.
People didn’t strive as hard as Camille did to make him feel welcome and at home back at his actual home, and there was a strange dissonance associated with that. When he remembers his home, the sensations are what he misses, but when he thinks of Saint Marie, it’s the people he loves.

Summary
Julian doesn't think about it much these days. Why should he, when it's been so long?
But when he does, if he does, well—he considers it part and parcel of Garak, that's all. Disconcerting at first, a little invasive. Awfully close to a line but not quite crossing it, and leaving Julian with absolutely no idea what he's meant to do in response. Garak in microcosm, summarized in a single unexpected gesture.
(Or: Julian has always thought Garak just had a weird little habit. Until another Cardassian does the same thing to him, and seems to imbue the gesture with a meaning Julian really had not anticipated.)
