Amity cringes when the thunder sounds, her hand slipping out of Luz's to cover her ears instinctively, and she presses her head down against Luz's shoulder to muffle the sound, but she doesn't hide her face, the lightning flashes reflecting in the gold of her eyes. It's like she's overwhelmed and transfixed all at once, and Luz thinks maybe that's what storms are like, when you're sheltered indoors: a collision of loud and quiet, of danger and safety. A paradox, just like this moment, because she's happy and sad, all in one.
