    Summary

It doesn’t matter that he gets virtually no sleep, or that his grades are at an all-time low. It doesn’t matter that he jumps at absolutely everything and that he thinks he’s going crazy. And it certainly doesn’t matter that his parents are back in town. Non of that matters because life has never been better for Steve Harrington… at least that’s what he tells himself anyway.

    -or-

I actually put Steve through hell.

    Summary

    It was over.

    That's what Hopper said anyway.

And Steve was welcome to leave.

Blood was drying over the small paper cuts littering his fingers; his full concentration was on controlling the urge to scrape off the scabs starting to form. The pile of paper that caused them was now supposedly sitting in files with the government. And unlike the scabs on his fingers or the bruises littering his face, the events inked down on those papers would stay with him forever; his silence along with them.

After the events of November 1983, Steve Harrington’s life began to fall apart. His parents would never understand why his math and science grades were slipping, or why his relationship with Nancy Wheeler was crumbling, or why he couldn’t sleep through a single night without screaming his lungs out. But through the guilt and pain, Steve finds books to read — and finds the courage to call a certain police chief.

Or: Steve’s parents wouldn’t help him, but a lonely chief of police and a couple of classic novels would.

    Summary

The sound of something moving snaps him out of his thoughts. When he turns to see what made it, his chest tightens. Hunched asleep in a chair, arms folded in front of him and head lolled forward, is Hopper. Steve watches as he shifts again, readjusting his shoulders and stretching his legs out in front of him.

“You were the King of Hawkins High -- what have you ever lost, huh?" snapped Jonathan. "A little sleep? Your fucking prom king title? Give me a break. I’m sick of you acting like you know what we’ve been through, you weren’t even there when it started!”

Steve stood up. “Shut up, Byers.”

    Summary

When Nancy tells Steve about Eleven, he starts searching the woods every single day to find her. He doesn’t know if she’ll recognize him- it’s been years since he escaped the lab- but the thought that his little sister could still be out there, cold and alone and starving, hurts more than he can say.

He finds the cabin by accident.
