Summary
Mark, Doug, and Carol head outside first to meet the ambulance, when someone laying flat on the concrete catches Carol's eye. She immediately runs up to check on the stranger then is taken back when she realizes it's not in fact a stranger at all.
"It's Carter!" She shouts, already dropping to her knees beside him. His eyes lay closed against his bloody and bruised face, his soft lashes a sharp contrast against the angry looking skin. "Get a gurney!" She shouts, eyes not leaving him. Carter's head is lolled toward her and blood is collecting beneath his head from somewhere on his scalp and his nose.
"Shit, Carter?" Mark asks loudly, tapping his shoulder as he drops to the pavement as well. "Carter can you hear me?"

His student yet again retreats from view, and Peter yet again doesn't give him a second look. Dr Hicks waits for the doors of the OR to swing shut and turns to him.
“Is your student okay, Peter?”
She's met with a derisive scoff.
“He spent the summer sunbathing on a tropical island, he's more than okay.” He gestures to one of the scrub nurses. “Metz.”
OR
Instead of fainting because he was queasy in S2 e1, Carter collapses for a far more urgent reason.

Sicktember Day 2- Forced to work while sick
The thing about working in emergency medicine is that even your sick days aren't sacred.
Carter had suspected this, of course, but it's only now, stumbling through the ER doors as a surgical intern barely holding back vomit, that the theory is confirmed.
OR
A pileup on the expressway means Carter's called in to work during his first ever migraine. It goes predictably well.

Sicktember Day 25- Medicine
An older lady from his apartment building calls it in- she came back to collect a bowl he'd borrowed from her, and when she opened the door, he was on the floor. Unresponsive. Still in his sleepwear. The whole thing seems vaguely fantastical to Mark until the ambulance arrives, and from it emerges Carter, strapped to a gurney, completely and utterly… gone.
