The thing is, despite getting shot at by high-speed vulcanized rubber on the regular for almost twenty years—and being arguably the most clumsy professional athlete to ever grace organized sports—Robin’s made it to 26 without a singular concussion or broken bone. It’s a point of pride, and a long standing joke that Steve’s had enough head injuries for the both of them.
She really hates that it’s a high stick from Carol Perkins—intentional, because she’s a horrid bitch who’s had it out for Robin since freshman year—that changes that.

Summary
Nancy, Eddie, and Jonathan are struggling rock musicians in a band who get the news of a lifetime. They're opening for Family Video, a nostalgic dream-pop vocalist duo band. Steve and Robin are superfans of the band and are able to convince their manager to let the rock local legends open for them.
Tour buses, past addictions, late night shows, song writing, and dirty motel rooms. What could be a better setting for falling in love? Especially after they're told explicitly by Hopper, the record studio owner, to not fuck each other.
Nancy thinks that's an easy direction she can follow. She hasn't dated anyone in years and barely believes in love anymore.
But then there's Robin. And it becomes a lot less easy.

“Are you alright?” Nancy asks once Robin’s coughing subsides.
Robin grips the edge of the counter, halfway hunched over the sink. She turns her head in Nancy’s direction, eyes watery and cheeks flushed as pink as the azaleas Mrs. Wheeler’s planted in the front yard.
“You’re going to be the death of me, Nancy Wheeler.”

Nancy grits her teeth. They’re wasting time. The blood on the kitchen floor's gonna start drying again. Nancy needs to keep going and Robin needs to stop looking at her like that. Like she doesn’t know what to do. Like she did at the hospital—like Nancy’s some ghost to stare at, some phantom.
“You want to help?” Nancy says, unwilling to become a spectre. “Go home.”

In the aftermath of El's sacrifice, Holly can't sleep without Nancy, and Nancy can't sleep at all. Robin keeps coming over, keeps being there. It doesn't help. Until it does.
