Summary
Tywin Lannister has ruled as king since the fall of the Targaryen dynasty, earning the respect of the people even if not their love. He's quashed an Ironborn rebellion and, more recently, an attempt to install a supposed Targaryen prince.
Sansa Stark's father chose the wrong side in the latter, believing there was more honor in restoring the house that had forged the iron throne than in supporting the man who claimed the throne through trickery, betrayal, and butchery. It cost the Starks everything, and now Sansa - all that is left of an eight-thousand year old line - has been handed over to the Crown by the same man who betrayed her family.
It would seem that the Crown's new ward has every intention of keeping her head down, but Tywin Lannister is a suspicious man by nature. What starts as observation becomes an obsession he can neither understand nor shake.

He saw what he had expected: fear mostly and pain of course, the raw emotions of any wounded animal. But there was something there that surprised him. It wasn't courage exactly, somehow that was the wrong word for it. Discipline. Some kind of tenacious inner strength that was unusual in someone so young. This was a girl who exerted an enormous amount of control over herself. All of it working overtime not to panic.
And yet, at the same time, she looked so impossibly fragile. Her wide blue eyes were so open, the fear so close to the surface it seemed like he could touch it if he were a bit closer. There were no walls up at all, no hint that she knew she should try not to look so much like prey. And the grip she had on herself, cost her dearly. Something inside of her seemed to be burning far too hot. Flames licking the feet of some virgin martyr.

Summary
Canon-compliant until a few months into Tyrion and Sansa's marriage. Tyrion is given an ultimatum by his father: do your duty, or I'll do it for you. Tyrion does his duty, and this alters Sansa's course such that she does not become Littlefinger's "daughter", but the Lady of Casterly Rock. But being one of the lions doesn't protect her from their fangs.
Ultimately, this is a story about surviving, enduring, growing, learning, and - eventually - remembering that not all dreams are hopeless.
Sometimes living well is the best revenge.
