“Gandalf,” the dwarf king says in greeting. “Putting more hobbits in danger, I see.”

The Fellowship heads for Erebor rather than Moria where Frodo meets Thorin Oakenshield and seeks his advice.

    Summary

So the delightful Pangur-Pangur wrote this prompt on tumblr: Giggling to myself over the thought of what stern glower Thorin might wear when, much to his dismay, Bilbo’s sole and most precious tomato sapling (perhaps a gift, and left in Thorin’s care before said Hobbit departs on an extended diplomatic excursion to Dale or Mirkwood) begins to droop and wither in its terrarium.

Just…Thorin alternating between forlorn and fiercely determined scowls while Dwalin snickers unhelpfully. Thorin taking his duty to this sprout very seriously – holding court with the terrarium on a little pedestal next to his throne so he can keep an eye on it. Thorin talking to the little furred leaves and hovering anxiously with the watering can and everyone saying, “Thorin NO.”

Thorin sending plaintive ravens to the Shire requesting aid before Bilbo returns.

And I decided to turn it into a fic!

    Summary

So it went: the mountain was reclaimed, and the kingdom was reborn in war.

There were elves, dwarves, men, horses, orcs, wargs, running, fighting, yelling, dying. Bilbo, too, ran, but he had eyes for one thing and one thing only:

    Thorin.

And he found him, there, on Ravenhill, battling the great white orc, right where Bilbo knew and dreaded he would be. And as he dreaded, as he feared like he had never feared anything before, Thorin was struck down before his eyes, and Azog raised his blade for the killing blow.

Bilbo didn’t even have to think. He slipped off the ring, and he charged.

    Or:

After the battle, all seems like it's ended better than anyone could possibly have hoped for. The company is alive, and Thorin and Bilbo are soon to be married. But all is not the happy ending it seems.

    Something is wrong with Bilbo.

    Summary

Thorin Oakenshield has reclaimed his kingdom but not his sanity. The deeper he sinks into the dragonsickness, the more his obsession shifts from gold to something far rarer: Bilbo Baggins. Unwilling to be defied and unable to let go, Thorin’s possessiveness turns fierce, dark, and inescapably intimate.

Bilbo never expected the dwarf king’s gaze to burn with something other than pride, but now he can’t escape it or the way it makes him feel. Caught between fear and forbidden desire, he’s torn between fleeing Thorin’s dangerous grip or falling deeper into it. As boundaries blur and the dragon’s curse poisons more than just gold, Bilbo must decide what scares him more: Thorin’s madness… or how much he wants to be owned by it.

Written for Augusnippets. Day 1, Path of Hurt: Brainwashing
    ***
Bilbo didn’t move much. Too much effort. Too much pain. It was much easier to sit on his knees and wait to be noticed.
