Summary
“Do you always watch me that closely, Eminenza?” he asks, eyes on Aldo. Something in his voice has shifted, too, dropping it into what might almost be a conspiratorial mutter, and Aldo shouldn’t delude himself into thinking he can read anything into it. It’s been too long.
Some doors should stay closed, especially after they’ve been slammed shut.
After the conclave, over the course of seven days and seven conversations, Aldo Bellini is forced to retrace the steps of a past he's spent thirty years trying to forget and slowly comes to the realisation that old, buried feelings might not have been buried that deeply after all.

Summary
When Charles Xavier moves to London and buys a house with his boyfriend Warren, he thinks his life is finally coming together in a way that everyone, including himself, has always expected. Erik Lehnsherr, on the other hand, is struggling to keep his life together after his recent divorce, now having to raise his three-year-old by himself. Neither is prepared to meet at work or, in fact, ever again: they have met before, now nearly ten years ago, when they conducted a passionate love affair that was over before it even began. Yet their attraction is still undeniable, and as Erik asks Charles out for a drink, Charles somehow forgets to mention that he's already seeing someone.

Summary
He would not go back to that church. If there was something his father had taught him that stuck was to not let his weaknesses show, to let a side open for people to sink claws in. Having spoken them out loud once was bad enough. The secret of confession could work once, maybe twice. It was not easy. Giulio’s father took up so much space in his life, there was very little left for God.

Summary
A month after the Conclave, Vincent Benítez, now Pope Innocent XIV, gets stuck in an elevator. It's not the kind of event that should have the potential to derail his entire pontificate, but it has. When the demons from his past come bursting into the Apostolic Palace and shake up a lot of well-established routines and certainties, it falls to a very unlikely alliance of friends, both old and new, to mount the defence and drive them back out. In the process, Thomas Lawrence learns things about their new Pope that he would not have imagined in his wildest dreams, and he finally finds the courage to be more to him than just another faithful servant.

Exiled with his worst enemy, desperate for what he can’t even name, he is caught between Venice and Rome, the sinner he is and the saint he wants to be.

Summary
Ex-libris: Latin for "from the books", often translated as "from the library of".
Without trying too hard, he could almost imagine the other man being decades younger, switching seamlessly from one project to the next. Perhaps Father Benítez had more of that person left in him than he seemed to think. Thomas watched the other man as he moved behind a table piled with stacks of printed volumes of different heights. He could still see him moving in between the gaps, a strange sort of mosaic. An incomplete picture, made no less interesting by the pieces still missing.
1926. The Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana is in a state of disarray. To initiate a process of modernization within the institution, Cardinals Aldo Bellini and Thomas Lawrence welcome Vincent Benítez, a mysterious priest from overseas.

Summary
“Cardinal,” Pope Innocent said without looking up. He was signing something, slowly. “Sit.”
Lawrence sat.
“I need a favor,” the Pope said. He didn’t sound tired, exactly. Just past the threshold of fatigue into some stranger, steadier state.
Lawrence waited.
“There’s a visitor,” the Pope went on. “He believes he’s here for an audience.”
Still, he didn’t look up. Just turned a page, signed again, then closed the folder and laid the pen down with the kind of care that made Lawrence nervous.
“Bellini can’t take the meeting. I won’t.”
A pause.
“You will.”
(In which Lawrence speaks on the Pope’s behalf, and learns that being heard can be its own kind of closeness.)
