Klaus stares at his file. Harding, Klaus stares back at him.
The others have already started to open their own folders, making an assortment of affronted and upset sounds as they read.
Instead of going straight to the back, Klaus opens it to the very beginning. There’s a picture of him in his dress uniform, garrote wire marks on his throat and a loopy smile on his face. His bio reads like the back of a book—Klaus, at 29 years old, joins the military! He spends two years in hell!—and there’s more blacked out lines then there are words. The date of birth is wrong, his immunization records are wrong, his family is wrong—the file says he’s an orphan, no close or extended family known.
The only thing that’s actually right is his first name and age. Klaus, 31. God, if that isn’t the saddest Tinder profile he’s ever seen, he doesn’t know what is.
