What a terrible day. A C-rank gone wrong, Iwa shinobis, rain and too much mud. Orochimaru hates it, is tired and just wants to take a nap. Summoning the king of snakes for the first time when he doesn't even know its name sounds like a good idea even though it definitely isn't. So he goes for it. It doesn't work of course, because it's a terrible day. Well, the summoning part worked. It's the snake part that didn't.
