"How long have you and Cherry been together?" Langa blurts out. Joe’s eyes widen at the question before pursing his lips in contemplation.
“I haven’t kept track in a while,” Joe admits after a pause, and Langa frowns. Wasn’t this the sort of thing people usually kept track of? “But at least 20 years,” he continues easily, even when Langa’s mouth drops open. “Since kindergarten, I know.”
Langa stares at him, shellshocked. “You’ve been dating Cherry since you were five years old?”
Joe’s eyebrows furrow. “What?” His eyes widen. “Oh, you meant. Together together.” He laughs awkwardly. “Langa, we’re not actually—Kaoru and I aren’t dating.”
Langa stares at him some more, somehow even more shellshocked at this new piece of information. “What?”

“What’s that ring Cherry’s wearing?” he asked.
Joe hesitated before answering. “It’s his wedding ring.”
“No way!” Reki grinned up at Joe. “I didn’t know you guys were married. Congratulations!”
“Whoa, what?” Joe stammered. “You’ve got the wrong idea, kiddo. I’m not married. Cherry isn’t married to me.”
Reki’s face fell. “Oh? Sorry, I just assumed because you guys are always together and you argue like an old married couple. Then who’s his husband, and why have we never met him?”
“His wife is a lawyer,” Joe said deliberately. “Her name is Akiko. She doesn’t skate.”

“C’mon, pinky, don’t be a downer,” Kojiro teased.
“It’s my vacation, I’ll do as I please,” Kaoru said, sticking his nose up at him. His haughtiness was somewhat undermined by the fact that he was now letting Miya hang off his arm as he did so often, like the little brother Kaoru never had. He would never admit it, but he did have a soft spot for him. (Okay, maybe he had a soft spot for them all, despite everything.)

Kojiro grips the edge of his worktable firmly but otherwise makes no move to stand or perceive his cousin in any pitiable way. This is a delicate matter. Miya might show himself to be cocky and indifferent, but Kojiro knows he’s far from the nonchalant boy he boasts he is.
