“Hal?” Barry breaks the silence. He looks surprised but also unsure. He takes a tentative step forward, but then stops, and Hal can tell he barely recognizes him with the heavy green armor and cape he wears, and with the decade of age that has deepened the lines of his face and painted the hair at his temples white. Hal, fearful that Barry too will see him as some kind of monster and not the same honest, decent man he’s always been and is desperately trying to prove he still is, wills himself into his regular civilian jeans, t-shirt, and jacket. It’s a form he doesn’t take all that often anymore, and the weight of his regular clothes feel strangely unfamiliar on his body.
“Hi, Barry,” Hal swallows, voice breaking when he says Barry’s name. God, it’s been so long since he’s said Barry’s name.
