Nick didn’t realize he was crying until a tear landed on Judy’s paw.
He let out a shaky breath.“I’m sorry,” he murmured.
“For all of it.”The hospital lights painted her fur in pale gold, but she didn’t stir.
Didn’t tease him.
Didn’t tell him to stop blaming himself.“They said this might be… permanent.”
His ears lowered.
“I don’t know how to fix it.”
He leaned closer.
“But I know one thing.”
A tear slid down his muzzle.
“I’m never leaving you.”
“I don’t care what it takes. I’ll leave the force if I have to. I’ll walk away from everything.”
His voice softened into a vow.
“I’ll take care of you.”When a mission leaves Judy with a life-altering injury, Nick faces a future he never imagined, one where being her partner may no longer mean standing beside her in the field.
