    It begins with observation.

    Spock has long tolerated the emotional outbursts and human irrationality of Doctor Leonard McCoy. He has studied him, examined his reactions, tested the limits of his patience. He knows that McCoy complains about Vulcans, calls them machines, scoffs at their lack of emotion.

    But Spock also knows—with quiet certainty—that McCoy does not hate him.
    He likes him. Or at the very least, tolerates him with an intensity that borders on something more.

    So Spock pulls on the thread.
    He tests it. He pushes it.

    And then one night—the thread snaps.

    What begins as an argument shifts into something heated, something physical, something Spock had not anticipated wanting so deeply. McCoy is human—so full of emotion, of feeling, of desperate, overwhelming need—and Spock, a touch telepath, is nearly undone by it.

    They collide in a way that is beyond logic.

    Perhaps, Spock thinks, not all illogical entanglements are unwelcome.
