It was your turn to look out at the city, at all the life speeding by, and take in the silence of the rooftop, how time seemed to move at half the pace.
“I know it hurts, Victor. Being vulnerable is never easy, but it’s better to be honest than to live in a lie with someone who barely knows you and refuses to get to know every part of you. It’s like the relationship is just a shell of what it really could be. It wouldn’t have been enough for you.”
“How do you know that?” You heard the sad twinge in his teasing tone.

It melted away your tough exterior for a second, but it was enough for him to see an opportunity. “I think we are,” he muses. “And friends,” his thumb lazily brushes over your cheek, his slender fingers lightly cupping the back of your slightly warm neck, “Share things with each other.”

Then Sam comes around, sees you, notices you for the person you are and is in need of a dance partner for an upcoming wedding. He hasn’t secured a date yet, but you can sub in till he can find one. It’s the least you can do and there should never really be an issue because you already have Bucky. Right?

Summary
Gavin swears off androids for the rest of his life and is perfectly content kicking them around and ignoring the tin cans. But then you come along. You treat them like human beings even though they're clearly not and he gets pissed, really pissed. Why treat them so well when you're just doing crowd control with them? Why not treat him better? Why choose them over your own people? He doesn't understand you. Maybe that's why he's intrigued by you. Maybe that's why he has to get to know you better. If not to change your mind about these plastic pieces of garbage, than because he can't stop thinking about you.

Loki is a vampire. A four, five, six-hundred-year-old vampire, give or take a few centuries. He's incredibly smart, intelligent, and devastatingly beautiful but he cannot solve every problem. That's why he needs you. You are a simple biologist trying to analyze a blood sample that you don't understand and Loki might just have the answers to. You'll eventually need his help too. Helping each other, well, gets complicated. Loki tells himself it's your wit that keeps him drawn to you, but there are only so many lies one can tell one's self and others.
The bigger problem than a budding romance: how do you keep yourself alive in a place crawling with blood-sucking vampires?
You lie and you get very good at it.

Connor couldn't figure you out and that bothered him, more than he was willing to admit. Usually, he didn't care whether he was close to someone or not, but then, they weren't you and they weren't working with him all the time. Every time you were near, he would ache to hear you open up to him, to give a few details of your personal life that he knew nothing about, but you gave away nothing - nothing - and he failed to compute why. Now, there was only one thing to do. He would do whatever he had to to get to know you - that was his mission and he always completed his mission.
