for all intents and purposes, he doesn't mean to scowl. he knows what you get like when you're truly difficult. you're stubborn, eager to argue and push back and he wouldn't trade it for the world. difficult are the times you stand your ground. difficult are the times you refuse to take his shit. difficult is not… this.
he sighs quietly and gently brushes his thumbs over your wet cheeks. it's a heart-wrenching thing seeing you sad. pretty, as you always were, but especially now. even with the world on your shoulders you still managed to make his heart squeeze and stutter.
"okay," he murmurs. "we'll stay here until you feel good enough to keep going."
