“Wow,” someone said behind her. “That was so fucking cool.”
Beatrice’s head snapped to find the source of the voice, not believing her own ears. She wondered, briefly, if she had sustained a worse concussion than she’d realized when she'd been knocked out. Maybe she was still unconscious, dreaming, or even dead. Because standing across from her was Ava Silva, grinning at her with a wild, unbridled joy. “Has anyone ever told you that you’re kind of a badass?”
Beatrice huffed out a laugh, and felt a tear slip down her cheek. She took a step forward, hands shaking as she reached for her. “Ava,” sounded almost like a broken plea falling from her lips, but she couldn’t find it in her to be embarrassed.
Until Ava’s smile faltered, then fell altogether into an expression that was entirely unknown to Beatrice.
“You–you know my name?”

Through the Halo’s increasing influence, Ava comes face-to-face with experiences she's only half-had and eventualities about which she was given fair and grave warnings. The feelings these encounters drag to the surface will, in time, become a threat.

Beatrice finds herself musing not over duty and sacrifice and God, but the truth of angels, if they can be created rather than summoned. If they can take the form of women with overeager mouths and careless limbs and eyes with a depth that beckons - a crooked finger, a spiral staircase - if they can be both human and not, both beautiful and terrifying.
Ava asks, What do you want, Beatrice?

Ava wants to kiss her now, uncaring of the fact that they have an audience and that she just died and there's almost certainly still a hoard of Adriel’s lunatics in an elevator on their way after them right now. Ava could kiss her and hold onto her and swear to never let her go if Bea will just let her, but instead she tilts at the last second and buries her face in Beatrice’s collar, inhales the smell of leather and lavender.

A post "Earth X" story, mostly canon, but veering from Reign, while incorporating other elements from the DC Comics universe and many attempts to answer those frustrating inconsistencies on the show.
