    Wei Ying didn't often think about what he was doing as he was doing it—that way lay madness and a lot of self-doubt. Still, as he was half-naked in bed with Mianmian, with Lan Zhan, also stripped down to his waist, spooned up behind her, he had to pause for a moment in the middle of undressing her and wonder just how he had gotten here.

    Or, Wei Wuxian, thinking he's just being a good buddy, decides to get Lan Wangji together with Mianmian. Things don't go as planned.

When he hears he's promised to Lan Wangji, he's sure the straight-laced alpha could never tolerate such a disobedient omega as him. Maybe the arrangement is a punishment for both of them.
    Fortunately, Wei Wuxian has a plan to get out of it. He's going to break every single rule of Gusu Lan clan.
    It comes as a huge surprise when Lan Wangji doesn't immediately send him back home. The alpha is an enigma. If only Wei Wuxian could read his smell.

    “I am going to lose my boyfriend to the ocean,” he hears Lan Zhan say from across the room.

    “No,” he says, slotting himself into the embrace Lan Zhan offers him. “Not lose me. But you might have some stiff competition.”

    “Hm,” Lan Zhan replies, pressing his lips against the hair at Wei Ying’s temple. “I shall do my very best to impress you enough to choose me, then.”

    Wei Ying slings his arms around Lan Zhan’s neck, rocking them backwards and forwards, enjoying the feel of him here, in this new moment, the sound of the waves and the smell of salt and fresh linen. “I don’t think you’ll have to try very hard,” he murmurs.
