“It’s just…when you went missing, I promised I would never let anything bad happen to you again.” Finally, he lifts his eyes to meet Will’s, and they’re a watery shade of brown. “And then I was the bad thing, over and over.”
The thought of twelve-year-old Mike making such an impossible promise makes his chest ache to the point where he worries something might shatter if he doesn’t remain strong enough to hold the pieces together. Will reaches out to touch Mike’s hand, tentative against where they’re tangled in the blanket. “Why are you bringing all of this up, Mike? Did something happen? Are you and El…,” he trails off, not allowing himself to even finish the question.
“No, nothing happened. And me and El, I mean, we’re fine. We’re always…fine,” Mike says, a breath of laughter escaping with it, which confuses Will even more. “But earlier, what Max and El said, it got me thinking. About how this battle with the Titans is getting closer and closer. And I want you to know that…being your friend, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. And although I’ve fucked up a lot, I’m going to keep my promise. I’m not letting anything else happen to you ever again. Okay?”

Our story begins in an art gallery. Where a reunion takes place. And it’s a race against time.
Mike is an author who is writing his third novel, however he’s having writers block! And what better way to get inspiration than going to the local museum. But a certain painting catches his eye and the style is rather familiar it gives him such nostalgia. Little does he know it’s from our little Will who’s now a renowned artist. Will is giving a ‘small’ showcase of his paintings—and Mike’s curiosity is peaked so he decides to investigates this showcase and its mysterious artist. In turn they see each other and immediately recognize just whose eyes are in the crowd, They talk and catch up—finding out Will is a fan of our Author.

If Mike were to be questioned about what happened earlier, he would say that he didn’t mean for it to happen at all.
And, like, yeah, he’s not lying or anything. He really wasn’t planning on kissing his best friend straight on the mouth in a valiant attempt to shut him up, but saying that he didn’t mean for it to happen implies that it was a mistake, accidental, unthinking, even; and that’s–well–that’s not strictly true, either.

Will followed Mike's gaze, who was staring intently at their hands together. His heart skipped a beat at the sight.
“Does it hurt?” Mike asked slowly, caressing Will's wrist with his left hand.
“No.” He whispered.
His eyes flicked back up again, holding his breath when he saw Mike's sight fixed on him.
“You sure?” Mike asked again.
God. Will felt like he would faint.
“Y-Yeah… I'm sure.” He breathed.
