Steve knew his relationship with Robin was weird.
Steve knew that most people didn't share a bed with their best friend every night. He also knew that most people didn't literally snuggle with said best friend at night (and any other hour of the day). He knew that most people didn't voluntarily shower with their platonic roommate, nor did most best friends moisturize each others backs.
She's seen his boner, he's seen her vibrators--it is what it is, and it works for them.
Unfortunately, when outsiders start to glean the truth of their situation--it becomes a bit uncomfortable.

“Langdon.” She said, as he drove. It’d be easier if he couldn’t look at her.
“Mel.” He replied, shooting her a quick sideways glance.
“Earlier today,” She began, “in the break room,” her hands fidgeted nervously in her lap, “you said something about, uh, well-“
“Needing to get laid ?” He finished for her,
“Yes. I was thinking about it,” Her stomach was quickly filling up with rocks and her throat burned just slightly,
“About me getting laid ?” He joked, smirking at her, eyes still on the road. The beat of silence that followed made him look at her fully, for just a moment, before turning his eyes back to the car in front of him. “What were you thinking about ?” He asked, tone more serious.
“I’m… going to tell you something you can’t tell anyone else, okay ?” Her eyes were burning a hole into her shoes, and she noticed the small speck of red that adorned the right one’s toe. The smallest drop of blood staining their surface.

“I’m not—” Peter chokes on his swollen tongue. His teeth feel tacky and loose in his mouth. He swallows, and tries again, “I’m not a kid.”
Peter rises onto his elbows. His arms shake with the effort, and something shifts around in his side. Sandman watches him squirm and shake and gag, bringing up more blood than bile. Peter’s never been this badly hurt before. Not even after Toomes.
“You’re a brave kid,” Sandman says, ignoring Peter’s sputtering disagreement. “That’s not a compliment, by the way. You’re going to get yourself killed."
