Satisfied, Phoenix took the other glass and started drinking some of his own. Edgeworth settled his glass down on the nightstand and looked at him intensely.
He lowered his glass a bit, tilting his head. “What is it?”
“This is not a dream…is it?” Edgeworth mused, before shaking his head. “No, I don’t think it is.”
Phoenix smiled softly before taking another sip of his water.
“If this were one of my usual dreams, we’d be kissing.”
Phoenix promptly inhaled his water, going into a coughing fit.

A few minutes pass in comfortable silence, Phoenix trying to just cool off, but it’s taking a while. He sighs. “Ugh, what I’d do to feel the cool air on my skin. It’s too damn hot.”
Miles’s hand pauses whatever he is writing. “Well,” he begins, voice strangely tight and careful. “You could always strip down further.”

The actual ceremony was absolutely gorgeous. It was a wonderful start to a wonderful day. A day that had been breathtaking and would most likely continue being so.

Summary
Miles thinks about it. Thinks about all the letters Phoenix had sent him, the ones he had burned away. The letters that he held so near and dear to his heart for the longest time, only to destroy them out of his own arrogance and pride. The letters that he unintentionally ended up memorizing because he read them so many times. The letters he would recite in his head while he was away doing specific duties in order to calm himself, unable to read them in that moment.
Writing a letter to him wouldn’t be such a terrible idea, he thinks to himself. After all, he wrote to me numerous times.
Suddenly, an idea strikes him.

While Miles is in Europe, he tries to think about a way to make up for all the mistakes he's made in the past--including the letters he burned away.

“That’s, um. That’s as much as I can really tell you?” There’s a flash of disappointment on Edgeworth’s face.
“Aw, c’mon, don’t give me that,” Phoenix says, “It’s just one of those things where, uh. It would…be better to show you, than tell you.” He focuses his gaze on something else, on anything else that isn’t Edgeworth with his face flushed and cute—
“Then show me.”

“Oh, you sweet talker you, telling me I’m illiterate,” Phoenix practically purrs despite the words themselves. “I bet you tell all the boys they can’t read.”
Unable to hide his smile, Miles leans towards Phoenix. “Only the ones I like.” He looks at Phoenix’s eyes, getting lost in the blue-brown irises. When Miles is this close he can see the constellations of freckles on Phoenix's face. He has the urge to kiss each and every one of them.
Phoenix’s eyes blow wide with faux-surprise. “Mr. Edgeworth,” he says, sounding completely scandalized. “Are you saying you like me?” He flutters his eyelashes and Miles is barely able to contain his snort.

Summary
Being born a feline and a fairly significant amount smaller than some of his colleagues in court, he has learned to try not to step on the wrong paws, so to speak. Well, he supposes in his early days he certainly didn’t follow that line of thinking—being deemed the Demon Prosecutor and all. But Miles has certainly changed, trading in his old, wicked ways to seeking out the truth in court, even if that meant teaming up with the defense.
His point (if he even started with one) is that now as Chief Prosecutor, Miles tries to avoid taking any unnecessary risks. He tries to play it safe, to avoid giving up parts of his life if he were to somehow lose it all just by putting them at risk.

Edgeworth stills beside him. “Would you…” He looks away from Phoenix for a split second before returning his gaze. “Would you be…inclined to do this again…sometime?”
The moment between them is completely still. It’s a heavy silence that weighs the entire room down, and Phoenix can’t take it anymore.
He can’t really explain it, but it’s as if there’s someone with a big sign that says DO NOT DO THIS. As if someone is letting him change an event that would alter which direction his life goes in.

He leans down to be at eye level with Phoenix. “Isn’t that the million-dollar question?” An amused huff. “I suppose the boring answer would be to kill you—“ Phoenix jerks back on instinct. “—but you and I both know that isn’t how I would like to do things such as this.” The villain rises and continues to circle around the jar. “No—you’re far too precious for me to kill you.”
