Summary
As they are recovering from the aftermath of their fall into the Atlantic and the start of their new life together, Will takes note of a pattern of strange, brief aberrations in Hannibal's behavior. Moments—usually anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes—when Hannibal becomes… different. Quieter, more shy, clingy.
Though they intrigue him from the start, it isn't until months later that Will comes to realize what those moments signify.

Summary
Post-fall, Hannibal struggles to deal with an influx of nightmares. Concerned, and with Hannibal refusing to acknowledge the issue with more than a passing comment, Will is forced to take matters into his own hands.
"It was like Will was living with two different Hannibals. Two different Hannibals, and neither of them were doing very well.
Will was concerned.
Concerned because Hannibal wasn’t sleeping, concerned because he wasn’t healing, concerned because it seemed as though Hannibal had suffered some kind of mental break, to the point that daytime-Hannibal wasn’t even aware of nighttime-Hannibal’s existence.
As another week passed without change, Will began to fear that some of this could be permanent. If he could just get nighttime-Hannibal to get some more sleep (because daytime-Hannibal absolutely refused to nap, no matter how tired he was), maybe then he could begin to recover."

Summary
When the memories of the past become too much for Hannibal, he regresses into a younger, more vulnerable version of himself. It is, of course, imperative that absolutely nobody finds out about this—especially not Will. But unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) for Hannibal, on this day that is exactly what happens.
AKA: It's Mischa's birthday and Hannibal is having a normal one about it.

Summary
The first petals appeared mere days after Hannibal had received the news of Will’s marriage.
Alana had been the one to tell him, looking insufferably smug, not even trying to pretend that she didn’t enjoy seeing the brief flicker of jealousy and grief on Hannibal’s face before he got his placid mask back in place.
Though the abrupt delivery of this news had caught Hannibal off-guard, the news itself wasn’t completely unexpected—Hannibal had yet to receive any correspondence from Will since he had surrendered. Clearly, Will was determined to play the losing game of denying himself his true nature for as long as he possibly could.
But that was fine. Will could play house, could put together his apple pie family with no place for Hannibal in it, for as long as he wanted. Hannibal could wait. He would wait months, years, decades if that’s what it took. Will would come crawling back to him eventually, Hannibal was certain—it was just a matter of waiting him out.
So no, the news of Will’s marriage had not surprised him.

Summary
For all of Hannibal's pining for him while at the BSHCI, now, free and together and relatively happy, Hannibal won't let Will touch him. And Will, for all of Hannibal being an excellent lover and a passable partner, is fed up.
Though he tries, open communication has never been their way, so he takes matteres into his own hands.
