Summary
Wei Ying uses his smile and bright laughs like a folding screen, like one of Nie Huaisang's many fans, but Lan Wangji sees. He sees the network of lightning and raised skin on the boy's back, sees his smile falter with every barbed reprimand from Jiang Wanyin and the way he constantly skirts around the border of things, as if he has to constantly know the point where he is unwanted.
He looks at Wei Ying and sees a future of squandered potentials and a brightness curbed at every turn, of a life making himself less in a Sect that would always see him as a servant's son and the reflection of their own inadequacy, and he laments that Wei Ying could not seem to see that - See past the sense of debt and false belonging his so-called family had ingrained into him.
But Lan Wangji is a patient man, and he would make Wei Ying see in time. Even if it means using the insecurities of Wei Ying's own family against him.

I don’t always read Jiang/WWX separation fics but when I do I like it done by the Lans! I do wish there was a follow up, but I’m perfectly content with how well written this is. I like following the fracture as it develops, and I love the relationship between the Lan bros. Worth a reread. Rated G

“No women,” he makes sure to say to the madam, simply wanting to rest.
When he opens the door to his room, there is a man draped in red silk, waiting for him.
“Xiansheng,” the man croons. “It’s a beautiful rainy night, are you going to stand there all day?"

Drunk: intoxication
I really like this fic. The first time I read it I was nervous because I felt like LWJ was being involuntarily made to feel certain things, but it’s totally fine! We check in with LWJ several times to make sure that’s not the case.
WWXs reasons for doing what he does are also cute, and I like how it resolves. Definitely worth a reread IMO.

Instead, Will managed to insist Alana became his therapist, and Jack brought Hannibal Lecter on as a consultant on the Chesapeake Ripper instead - and he immediately made his interest in Will known.
The problem with Hannibal Lecter, Will decided, wasn’t so much that he was an arrogant, overdressed, snobbish Alpha psychiatrist, but that he had no right smelling as good as he did. Will had felt a sharp stab of attraction, walking into Jack’s office the first time they met, which was not like him at all.
