Slowly blinking, Shadow’s eyes flickered between the two.

Shadow says “I don’t do favours, especially not for you.” But he slows, hovering at the edge of their chosen space.
And Sonic’s grin widens, and he says, “But you’ll like this one! Promise!” He edges closer slowly, just into range, “You just need to kick me as hard as you can with the bottom of your shoe. Like, here, on my ribs.”

If you were to tell Sonic this was how his day would end, he never would have believed you… probably would have laughed and thrown out a “Yeah, sure, bud.”
But here he is — lying down with a clinging hoglet wearing his chili dog t-shirt, pressed to his chest, letting out soft snores and purrs.
It’s insane… One moment he’s carefree, scoping out an abandoned G.U.N. base with Grouchy Shadow — the next, he’s a dad to a lab-made hoglet using his and Shadow’s DNA of all people? Yeah. Crazy day.
Looking back on it, and how much it’ll change him and everyone around him, he can’t say he regrets his decision that night.
But right now, he doesn’t know that yet. All he can think is: “What am I supposed to do now?” as he pulls the blanket over the two of them for bed.

Or: A Sonadow fanchild AU I came up with because I really wanted to write a slow burn with a LOT of fluff. It might start out angsty (especially with Shadow the Dumbass — but he’ll come around), but trust me, it’s mostly just found family fluff and Sonic learning how to be the best dad possible with help from his friends.
Granted, with lots of bumps along the way.

At least, for me.
I fought hard before accepting that mission. Before ending up here. But the impostor doubted I could handle something so simple. The supreme lifeform… afraid to act? I nearly spat my answer in his face: "Never."
We proceeded with the tests on the Chaos Emerald. The fox seemed excited—almost childlike in his eagerness. But something went wrong. A conduit overload, maybe. Or some calculation he—always so damn confident—missed.
The lab exploded in green. The Emerald pulsed, alive, hungry. Sonic was fast enough to yank Miles out. Me? I wasn’t so lucky. The light swallowed me whole, tore me from my time, spat me into a future that shouldn’t exist.
And now? Here I stand. In some random kitchen, staring at a couple lost in each other.
So happy. So… pathetic.
When did I become something so repulsive?

Dealing with the Lightning Bolt Society? Easy.
Facing off against Eggman? Just another Tuesday.
But this? Racing through the jungle in the dead of night, every second feeling like an hour. In his arms was Shadow, who had just given birth, and a newborn hoglet cradled in Shadow’s arms, all of them covered in sweat, blood, and other bodily fluids.
Yeah. That was new.
“Hang on, Shadow, just a little longer. We’re almost there!” Sonic's voice was a mix of worry and determination, his heart pounding as he urged Shadow to hold on.
Shadow moaned, half-conscious. Sonic didn’t know if Shadow understood what he was saying. A painful, pitiful cry came from Shadow’s arms, where the hoglet was wrapped up in Sonic’s bandana. Sonic pushed himself to go faster, knowing time was of the essence. As the jungle blurred by the shallow gasps of Shadow and the far too-small and sickly hoglet echoing in his ears, Sonic couldn't help but wonder how he got here.
AKA: All Sonic wanted was a late-night Meh Burger.
