Summary
There are two types of mer: wild and domestic. With extremely differing views on culture, freedom, and especially humans, the two groups rarely interact.
Crona is wild, forced by their mother into staying in their den. Maka is domestic, having been raised practically human. Soul is a former wild, working to heal those that were once like him. The stars align, and all three end up in the same place at the same time.

Summary
Maka has known pain since she was very young. Having a rare form of connection to her soulmate should have been exciting, an insight to the life of one she was destined to meet and to love, but all it's brought her is the unique understanding that, whoever and wherever her soulmate is, they're suffering. And Medusa's new stupid nurse aide isn't helping that problem.
Crona was never supposed to have a soulmate. Failing as a kishin was bad enough, but having to bear the knowledge that their existence has caused only pain for someone who was never meant to be caught in the crossfire is something else entirely. But they can't disobey Medusa now- and besides, it's not like they'll be a problem much longer.

Left to his own tomfoolery, Dave runs into probably the most un-nonchalant person ever. Some guy with even messier dark hair than John, eye bags for days, and a bad attitude. Dave doesn’t realize he’s been staring at the guy until he runs right into Dave.
Rose Lalonde is the smartest girl she knows. Of course she knew Jade was planning on purchasing her gifts in person due to her shipments oversees being delayed and gave her an easy out as well as John’s predicament with his father’s gift, which had unfortunately shattered in the mail. So Rose slyly proposed impromptu holiday shopping, who quickly scattered with thanks. Perhaps Dave will find something to get for their friends, but she is well aware that he has already bought his gifts. Rose planned to go find Dave quickly after John and Jade departed, but a beautiful woman with pitch black lipstick pursed into a scowl and eye liner as sharp as knives caught her eye. Rose felt her heart stutter as she saw the woman make her way over to her.

Dove turned her head on the pillow. She could just make out the familiar landscape of Karkat’s face in the gloom: the strong line of her nose, the soft curve of her mouth, the dark pools of her eyes. “Okay,” she conceded. “I was thinking… this is good.”
Karkat let out a soft, exasperated huff of air. “More of your famously vague pronouncements. Define your terms, Strider. What is ‘good’?”
“You,” Dove said, because in the intimate democracy of the dark, she could speak in plain truths. “Here. With me. The grocery store wars and the stupid tantrums and the hair-petting. It’s… good.”
Karkat was quiet for a long moment. The only sound was the whisper of the fan and the faint, rhythmic sigh of their breathing. Then she shifted, moving closer, tucking her head beneath Dove’s chin, her forehead pressing against Dove’s collarbone. Her voice, when it came, was small and hushed, stripped of all its defensive armor. “Yeah. It is.” A pause. “For the record, you’re my favorite thing, too. Even when you're the worst sometimes.”

Summary
Spamton’s roots were growing out. It took a while for Tenna to notice, or maybe it just took a while to happen. His body was so different now, hard plastic where there had once been soft feathers, gaping, empty sockets that had once held sharp eyes. Static and unchanging. Wounds that would have once healed with time now had to be carefully repaired and his blood was no longer a familiar, humanizing red. He was a doll in more than just appearance. And, like a doll, his hair didn’t grow. Or at least, it hadn't.
OR: Tenna notices that Spamton's stopped dying his hair, despite how vital he knows it was to him. He tries to help without completely ruining whatever fragile truce they've managed to construct.
