Mac took Murdoc’s hand. It was large and warm, the skin rough on his palm. Calluses and tiny scars littered his hand, warn in place from his chosen trade. Mac’s heart thumped suddenly and he swallowed. He wasn’t sure why he was anxious about doing this. He’d set plenty of bones before, many of them worse injuries than this one. (But, then, none of them had been on Murdoc.)

Mac wakes up in the hands of an enemy, kidnapped on an undercover op. With the Phoenix team out of reach, he has no choice but to rely on an unlikely ally. Murdoc. Sure, they spend all of their time together. And yes, they watch The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives religiously every week and chat about it at work. And yeah, fine, she'll meal prep them both lunch while he fixes her sink, but they're not friends. And that's how it'll stay.
Until the day a patient comes into the ER and Dennis refuses to treat him. Not out of revulsion. Not because the guy’s an ass.
Because Dennis is terrified.
And fear has a funny way of cracking things open.
