“I’m in heat.” Billy blurted and Steve froze. “I’m in heat.”
“Oh shit.” The Alpha swallowed, then swallowed again. This was not a good situation. “Uh, Billy that sucks. But I don’t understand why you’re here."
“Neil kicked me out.” Billy muttered. “He won’t let me work through it at the house, told me I had to get out and it’s not like I can sweat this out in my car.”
Steve made a semi disbelieving noise and Billy screwed his eyes shut, breathing out a frustrated curse. “Max says you’re safe. And I really need a safe place for the next few days. Call it a favor to Max or I can pay you if you want, but I can’t go back to Neil’s house and I don’t have anywhere else to go.”
The Alpha stayed silent, and Billy’s voice cracked with loneliness and desperation. "I don’t have anyone else I can ask."

Summary
Sex Ed course came once again, and, for the first time, Billy listened.
He listened, because it started to match and make sense with what Max’s little troup told him over and over again.
Apparently, it was biology which dictated that omega jewelry wasn’t just a futility or decoration, or even a signal that the omega was taken. It wasn’t a trade, sex for jewelry, like Neil had taught him all his life. No: scientists had found back in the sixties that omega jewelry has a soothing effect, especially during heat, as a reminder of love and affection; something tangible and available at all times, even when no one is.
